To create matcha you should use a matcha bowl and whisk.
The chashaku (bamboo matcha spoon) is not necessary. Some customers enjoy using the matcha spoon as it adds to the ritual effect of preparing the tea. The bamboo spoon comes with our tea ceremony sets.
For strong (thick) tea use one level teaspoon for 4 to 6 ounces of water. For medium (thin) tea use half or one quarter that amount. First put the powdered tea in the bowl. Then pour hot (not boiling) water over the leaves.
Whisk the tea into a rich froth!
To clean the whisk fill
a bowl half-full of clean water and rotate the whisk. Or rotate it under the tap. Then rinse it gently with clean water.
After several uses the bamboo will become stained green. This is normal, the whisk is still good. If you use a whisk twice a day, every day, your whisk should last 2 to 3 months.For a full explanation of the different grades of matcha (thick, thin, etc.) please go to our Matcha Page.
